The Sprint Qualification session of Miami GP 2024 has been full of events. Many drivers avoided some close contact with the wall at Turn 16 while a poor push involving McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Stake F1's Valtteri Bottas triggered a controversy.

However, after the race it has been revealed that FIA will call both drivers to discuss the situation before giving a verdict. After completing his push lap, Bottas was coasting into Turn 1 when he veered into Piastri's path, who seemed to be beginning a hot lap.

Which law was breached in Miami?

It’s worth noting that Both drivers will face scrutiny from the stewards regarding an alleged violation of Article 33.4 of the FIA F1 Sporting Regulations, which prohibits driving unnecessarily slowly, erratically, or in a potentially dangerous manner to other drivers or individuals.

It states, “At no time may a car be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person.” Both will have to prove their reasons behind being slow at the Turn 1 or else will face a penalty going into the sprint and GP.

After the incident, Piastri expressed his frustration over team radio, stating, "If that’s not a penalty, I don’t know what is," while Bottas communicated with his new race engineer, remarking, "That was too late, man, I had no idea."

Despite the collision at Turn 1 Valtteri Bottas failed to progress beyond SQ1 and will start P18. On the other hand, Oscar Piastri advanced to SQ3 and will line up sixth for the sprint. This will surely help Piastri to get better of his McLaren as his teammate Charles Leclerc will start second.
