Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at their home ground, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, completely dominated the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 47th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The visiting skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, the DC batting attack was seen struggling against the KKR bowlers in the first innings.

Delhi Capitals were restricted to a total of only 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In a surprise for the fans, it was the lower-order batter and star bowler, Kuldeep Yadav who ended up being the leading run-scorer for DC in the first innings. When all the other DC batters were struggling against KKR, Kuldeep played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs off 26 balls, with 5 fours and a six to help his side cross the 150+ mark in the first innings, scoring 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Besides Kuldeep, it was DC skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored 27 runs off 20 balls, with 2 fours and a six.

Star spinner Varun Chakravarthy bowled brilliantly and scalped 3 wickets for KKR in the first innings; he conceded only 16 runs in his entire quota of 4 overs, with an exceptional economy rate of 4.00. Besides Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana also claimed two wickets each, alongside one wicket each bagged by Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine.

Phil Salt's 'powerplay onslaught' dismantles DC

While chasing the target, the in-form opening pair for KKR, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine added blistering 79 runs for the first wicket in just 6.1 overs. Salt played a swashbuckling knock of 68 runs off just 33 balls, with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Apart from Salt’s ‘onslaught’ over DC bowlers, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer and middle-order batter Venkatesh Iyer also played the unbeaten knocks of 33 and 26 runs, respectively.

On the back of these knocks, KKR managed to chase down the target in just 16.3 overs, scoring 157 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and winning the match by a big margin of 7 wickets. Lizaad Williams and Axar Patel scalped 1 and 2 wickets, respectively for DC in the first innings. Varun Chakravarthy won the ‘Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling performance in KKR’s favour.
