In what seems to be a bit surprise for cricket fans, Australia haven’t picked the former skipper and the batting superstar, Steve Smith in their squad for the men’s World Cup. The Aussies announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Apart from that, there have been very few surprises in the OZ squad for the tournament.

The big build-up for Jake Fraser-McGurk’s spot in the squad among the experts didn’t get successful as he missed a chance amidst the selectors’ priority of picking the experienced players. Star all-rounder Cameron Green and spinner Ashton Agar

Star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will lead the charge as captain for this 15-member contingent for the Caribbean challenge. Marsh also spoke on Wednesday morning after getting appointed skipper for the upcoming prestigious cricket biennial.

“It's been an immense privilege to play for my country and now an even greater honour to lead the squad to a World Cup,” Marsh said in Cricket Australia’s official press release.

“We have had some strong success in recent times and I am hopeful that will continue in what looks like a wide-open tournament,” he added later.

Here’s a look at Australia’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024:

Besides this, the chief of selection, George Bailey also spoke after the announcement of the team; he called it ‘unfortunate omissions’ while explaining that Steve Smith, Aaron Hardie, and Spencer Johnson failed to cut the Australia squad for the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

“Being constrained to a squad of 15 for World Cups is always a challenge given the different scenarios and options we'd like to cover,” said Bailey in an official statement.

The Aussies have also revealed their new kits for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with a new and stylish mix of green and a bit of yellow.
