Borussia Dortmund are currently in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League 2023/24 season. They defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the 1st leg of the semis at the Signal Iduna Park. The German side has also secured their position for the upcoming season of the UCL as there will be 5 spots for German and Italian clubs in the European competition because of the change of rules by UEFA and the format of the tournament will also be longer than other times.

Dortmund star Marco Reus who is yet to win a UCL trophy, will be leaving the club at the end of the season as a free agent. The German midfielder has been loyal to his club for 12 long years. However, he was injury-prone and was unlucky at times as the 34-year-old footballer always missed big opportunities due to injuries.

Despite having interest from other clubs he never left his boyhood club. Reus's contract will end in June 2024 and the club has decided not to renew further. He has played 424 matches, scoring 168 goals and assisting on 128 occasions. He has been an absolute legend to the club, and he has also shared a video in the club's official social media handle confirming his departure from the club.

Marco Reus: A man without haters

As called by the fans 'Woodywoodpecker' was the last man left from the 2013 UCL final squad that lost against their arch-rivals Bayern Munich. The "Prince of Dortmund" has immense respect from the club and the fans in Germany for his loyalty. He was also named Footballer of the Year in Germany in 2012 and 2019.

The side has struggled with consistent performance in the Bundesliga, however, they have shown solid display in the UCL. Against the odds defeated Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Reus did not appear in the quarters, although he came in as a substitute in the last game against PSG. The Black and Yellow side will look to win the UCL to provide a fairytale farewell to their club legend.
