The semi-finals of the Madrid Open have begun and the quest to find the finalists is almost done. There have been some surprising inclusions in this tournament, but it has still been a great ATP tournament which has included some of the best in the world. This has been the time when we have seen some young talent come up the ranks and show their worth on the big stage. It is safe to say this has been one of the most unexpected tournaments so far.

The first semi-finals was between Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz who are amongst one of the best upcoming stars in the game right now. Both these players have impressed everyone in this tournament. Rublev had to make a comeback after disappointing performances in the last four tournaments whereas Fritz has had some impressive runs just before Madrid. Rublev had just come back from defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz while on the other hand, Fritz managed to come out on top in a slightly long-drawn game against Cerundolo. Together they both were competing to qualify for their first Madrid Open final.

Rublev dominates Fritz in a one-sided semi-final match

Though we have been used to surprises in this current clay season, this was one of the rarest one-sided encounters you could ever see. Right from the first serve, this looked like Rublev's game. Taylor Fritz was looking completely out of focus in the game as soon as he lost the first set to the Russian by a score of 6-4 where Rublev easily broke his service. The next game was another brutally one-sided affair as Rublev once again won 6 games to 3 to become the first finalist of the Madrid Open. This will be the opportunity to finally win a title and make a comeback this season.

This has been a dream run for Rublev after losing four consecutive games this season and was having the worst season of his life before this tournament. He will be looking for his first title this season and show why he is one of the top 10 players in ATP right now. He will still have to win against Felix Auger Aliassime or Jiri Lehecka who might still be young and fresh but are still capable and talented enough to defeat even the best in the world.
