In a rather spine-chilling development, a 19-year-old has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) after he threatened to kill the players of the Indian cricket team. The accused has been identified as Brij Mohan Das, who had sent the horrific email to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Investigations also revealed that he had sent the emails to other boards.
The content on all the emails has been identified to be more or less the same with the same threatening nature. The case was then reported to the Maharashtra ATS. A thorough verification process was done in order to gauge the root of the matter. Thereafter it was learned that the email was sent by Das, who is a resident of Shantipur Saharanpur, Morigaon in Assam.
Later, Brij was put behind the bars by a team in Assam as per reports in India TV. In the meantime, a case has been registered into the matter under sections 506 (II) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1932.
Das was later produced in a magistrate court in Morigaon, Assam from where his transit remand was obtained. He was then taken to Mumbai, Maharashtra and was produced before Mazgaon court. He has been ordered to stay in police custody until Monday, August 26.
Not the first time for the BCCI
Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) received an email , which said that the Indian team is under the threat of an imminent terror attack. The Team India players are currently in the West Indies, taking part in the two-match series. The PCB immediately forwarded the mail to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The BCCI also received a copy of it in the next 24 hours.
The BCCI then informed the Union Home ministry about the situation and also alerted the Indian embassy in Antigua, the place for the opening Test. Under extreme circumstances, the security for the national team has been increased after the terror hoax. The matter came to the fore when the Indian team was busy playing a warm-up against the West Indies A at Coolidge, Antigua.
