Shakib Al Hasan recently made his comeback in international cricket after serving a one-year suspension for failing to report approaches made to him by bookmakers. He played an important role in sealing a 3-0 series win against West Indies in the recently concluded ODI series as he picked up 6 wickets and scored 113 runs.
His recent performances would have cleared any doubts that IPL teams would have had in terms of him being able to recapture his old form. The Bangladeshi star is at his best at either No.3 or No.4 and is more than good enough to bowl 3-4 overs in each game.
Shakib Al Hasan has played 63 games in the IPL and scored 746 runs in addition to picking up 59 wickets. There are quite a few teams that are in need of an all-rounder like him.
Here we bring you three teams that can pick him in IPL 2021 auction:
3. Rajasthan Royals
The team from Rajasthan finished bottom of the league last season and didn’t have a whole lot of positives. As a result, they have made some big changes and one of them was to release their captain, Steve Smith, and appoint Sanju Samson at the helm.
Their batting wasn’t great last season and they struggled to find their best batting order throughout the tournament. Shakib Al Hasan could be the solution for their woes as he could potentially fit in at No.4 in their batting order.
He would be a solid replacement for Steve Smith and would enable Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Sanju Samson to bat freely. The presence of both Stokes and Shakib in the top 4 would also allow them to play an extra batsman as both of them are capable of bowling their full quota overs.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB finished 4th last year and had a pretty decent campaign considering they didn’t qualify for 3 consecutive seasons. Their batting was quite good as they had 3 players who scored in excess of 450 runs, although Virat Kohli would have liked to score at a quicker rate than he did.
Aaron Finch was a big disappointment for the Royal Challengers as he struggled for rhythm throughout the season. Finch’s presence also meant that Virat Kohli couldn’t open the innings, where he has much better stats than while batting at No.3 for RCB.
Buying Shakib Al Hasan at the auction would give them the opportunity to play Kohli at the top of the order while the former SRH player could slot in at No.3. He is a proven performer and his arrival would strengthen RCB’s batting. With the ball, he would offer something different from both Sundar and Chahal as he is a left-arm spinner, and Kohli could use any of them depending on the situation.
1. Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI will have a lot of work to do at the auction as they have to fill 5 overseas slots out of a total of 9 empty slots. They finished 6th on the points table, and it was largely due to a solid winning streak during the business end of the tournament. The Punjab-based team has a couple of vacant slots in the middle-order after releasing Glenn Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham.
Shakib Al Hasan could be a very useful option for them as he can fit in at either No.4 or No.5. He would pretty much be a direct swap for Maxwell, and Kings XI would certainly have him on their short-list ahead of the mini-auction.
He would provide a bit of variety in their bowling attack as both Murugan Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi are leg spinners, while Shakib is a finger spinner. Kings XI haven’t had the best of times with overseas signings in the recent past and buying a consistent performer like the Bangladesh all-rounder wouldn’t be the worst thing to do.
