The three-time champions Chennai Super Kings are experiencing a torrid run in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). They have been knocked out of the race of securing an IPL play-offs berth for the first time in 13 years after Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by eight wickets in Abu Dhabi.
The MS Dhoni-led side is languishing at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in twelve fixtures. Though the Super Kings had registered a victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight wickets on October 25, Sunday, however, to keep their slim chances alive for a few hours but all hopes ended when RR beat MI later in the day.
CSK had won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011, before reclaiming the crown in 2018 following a two-year gap. However, it would be the first time in their 10-year run in the tournament that they have failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Simon Doull reacts to the hate message by a CSK fan
CSK’s poor run in the 2020 edition of the T20 extravaganza has raised quite a few eyebrows in the cricket fraternity. Many cricket experts and pundits have criticized the franchise and the captain MS Dhoni for their tactical decisions and selection of playing XI. The team had failed to find the winning rhythm and have been lacking in all the three facets of the game, be it bowling, batting or fielding.
The skipper Dhoni’s form has also been one of the major concerns for the Yellow Army in the tournament this far. Hailed as one of the best finishers to have embraced the modern game of cricket, Dhoni hasn’t been able to contribute with the willow. In 12 games, the Ranchi Stalwart has managed to score only 199 runs at an average of 28.42 and strike rate of 118.45, not out 45 being his highest score.
Simon Doull, who is a part of the star-studded commentary panel of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League, was at the receiving end of the trolls and hate from the CSK fans for allegedly criticizing MS Dhoni.
In his hate message for Doull, a fan had written, “Dear Simon, Please stop commenting on MS Dhoni! Hope you mind your own job. You have not done anything extraordinary to criticize the great man! With all due to respect please abstain from such habits! – CSK wellwisher.”
Sharing the screenshot of the message on his official Twitter handle, Simon clarified that as a commentator it is a part of his job to pass remarks on the game of players and their tactical decisions.
Doull tweeted, “Really sorry Pratik but in case you don’t understand the job of a commentator, it is to comment on the game and people playing it. Have a great day mate.”
