Manoj Tiwary, the veteran Indian cricketer, has gone unsold for the second time in succession in the IPL Auction. The Bengal batsman last played in the 2018 edition of the T20 league, representing the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) where he was in and out of the team. Both in 2019 and 2020, he set himself a base price as low as INR 50 lakhs, but he couldn’t find any buyer, much to his dismay.
Tiwary is 34 years old and it doesn’t seem likely that he will again play in the T20 extravaganza, barring some miraculous occurring. An IPL snub can come as a massive blow to any cricketer, irrespective of his stature and it’s the easiest to go into a depressed state of mind. However, the Howrah-born Tiwary didn’t allow the rejection to disturb his mental state.
Tiwary posted a video where he can be seen, seating by the seaside. He celebrated the snub, sipping liquor in the picturesque ambiance. He captioned the video and wrote, “Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated. So here i’m celebrating the snub from IPL 2020 Auction,”

Tiwary intends to play for 10 more years
Manoj Tiwary has been a part of the IPL ever since the inaugural edition way back in 2008. The 2011 season turned out to be Tiwary’s most prolific IPL season as he notched 359 runs in 15 matches at an average of 51.28. Then in 2017, Manoj had another stupendous season, scoring 324 runs at an average of 32.40. In 98 games in the tournament, Tiwary has 1,695 runs with seven fifties.
Recently, Tiwary said that at the age of 34, he intends to ply his trade for another 10 years. For him, aged is just a number, but admitted that extending his career that far can be tough. In the cricket field, Tiwary looks up to the likes of Zaheer Khan and Wasim Jaffer for inspiration.
Zaheer recently played in the T10 League in Abu Dhabi while Jaffer is playing in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Tiwary also aims to score 1,000 runs in a single edition of a Ranji season and has set himself a blueprint of how to achieve his goals.
