Sri Lanka cricket team has been dealt with a massive blow as it is reported that one of their most celebrated and talked-about young cricketer was caught red-handed in an ugly sex scandal. The Island nation had locked horns against England in the first match of the two-match Test series at Galle International Stadium from January 14 to January 18 and had to face a humiliating defeat by seven wickets.
It is learned that the ugly incident took place during the Test series against England only. The youngster, who is in his early twenties, was caught with a female official of the Sri Lanka squad in a hotel room. The players from both the teams have been confined to their hotel rooms as the Test series is being conducted in a bio-secure bubble owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
This is not the first time that Sri Lanka Cricket encountered such incidents as it is believed that the accused female official was caught in the act a number of times before too. Also, during the Sri Lanka tour of South Africa, where the visitors succumbed to a massive series defeat by 0-2, many players were caught smoking, boozing and doing other inappropriate activities before the important games.
Sri Lanka Cricket had ignored such kind of misconduct in the past
“The incident has been apparently reported to the Colombo headquarters of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) by the team management in Galle. The player’s misconduct is not a new thing. Similar types of sexual misconduct have been going on for a long time. The same female official has been involved on many occasions on such incidents. But the authorities have kept a blind eye.
“Such sexual misbehaviour had been happening during Sri Lanka’s recent visit to South Africa too. This is only a part of our players’ bad conduct during important series. Some of them are into smoking and boozing during important matches, and this is something in addition to those,” a source said as quoted by The Sunday Morning.
The Sri Lanka players were also brutally trolled on social media after a video of four players playing cards while the hosts were bundled out for a paltry total of 135 runs had gone viral on social media. Such instances will paint a very poor picture of the players and the authorities.
