AB de Villiers bid adieu to international cricket back in 2018. It was a shocking decision taken by the 36-year-old as it came just before the 2019 World Cup. But, now there are rife speculations that he might mark his comeback ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup into the international cricket.
Now, Mark Boucher, the current head coach of South Africa has given a deadline to all the players over their availability if they want to put their contention forward for the place in the national side.
After taking retirement from international cricket, the 36-year-old has been featuring in different T20 leagues across the globe. He recently played for Brisbane Heat in the concluded season of Big Bash League 2019-20. Moreover, there is no dip in his form with the bat whatsoever despite his increasing age.
The right-hander hitting the bowlers with the bat like he used to when he was playing for the national side. In BBL 2019-20, he scored 146 runs in six-game with the help of an amazing half-century.
Mark Boucher gives a deadline to all the players
If AB de Villiers marks his comeback into the international cricket then it will be a major boost for the Proteas ahead of the mega-event. He is regarded as one of the best T20 batsmen across the globe who can single-handedly win the games for his team. Now, Mark Boucher, the head coach of South Africa has said that IPL is all set to begin, so the board have given permission to the players for playing in the same.
He also added the fact that they have still left with enough games for the tuning of the team ahead of the T20 World Cup. After IPL 2020, the first tour is to Sri Lanka and every player has to make themselves available for it. It doesn’t matter if they pick those players or not but they should be available for the same in order to put their contention forward for the T20 World Cup team.
“The big one is the IPL so we decided to let those guys – the free agents if you want to call them that – do the IPL and then afterwards make themselves available. We’ve still got quite a few games (before the World Cup). From the first of June, which is the Sri Lanka tour, those guys need to make themselves available.
Whether we select them is another story. But they need to make themselves available if they want to put their hands up for a World Cup spot,” Boucher said as quoted by cricket.com.au.
