The inaugural day of the 4th edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League started with some dazzling action between the Northern Warriors and Maratha Arabian. In what was a scary exhibition of quick-fire cricket, a 31-ball 54 from Lendl Simmons powered the Northern Warriors posted 127/2 after their 10 overs.
In response, UAE wicketkeeper-batsman Abdul Shakoor ripped apart the opponents through his unreal knock of 73 from 28, including seven fours and five sixes. His blinder came to an end in the 9th over, marginally bringing back the Warriors in the game, although skipper Mosaddek Hossain whacked a couple of fours o the final two balls to clinch the game by 5 wickets.
There was something for the bowlers to cheer about, as 8 wickets fell in the second fixture between the Pune Devils and Deccan Gladiators. Having elected to field, some tight opening spells from Mohammad Amir and Nasir Hossain for the Devils denied Gladiators a smooth start.
It was Azam Khan’s 13-ball 37, including four sixes, which took the total to 104/5. Out for the chase, Kennar Lewis’ magnificent half-century – he slammed 57 off 28 with a whopping six maximums – led the Devils to a 7-wicket victory with four balls to spare.
The third fixture between the Delhi Bulls and Bangla Tigers was another run-fest as the Tigers, after electing to bat, posted a massive 128/2 on the board courtesy of a spectacular show from Johnson Charles, who slammed five sixes and six fours in his 35-ball 73, and skipper Andre Fletcher, who got 32 from 16 with four boundaries and a couple of sixes.
In response, the Bulls got off to a flying start as Rahmanullah Gurbaz (41 from 15) and Evin Lewis (32 from 18) took the attack to the opposition. Though they lost Gurbaz in the third over, Ravi Bopara – who was given a couple of lives – 16-ball 38 proved sufficient for them to hunt the target with 7 balls to spare.
