England spinner Adil Rashid made the headlines after his country won its maiden World Cup at Lord’s on July 14. It was not for any performance but because of captain Eoin Morgan’s words that Rashid had told him the God was with them. England had a thrilling encounter with New Zealand in the title clash and after both the scheduled match and the super overs ended in ties, the Three Lions were announced champions by the virtue of hitting more boundaries than their opponents.
Morgan said in the post-match conference that Rashid told him that Allah was with England definitely besides praising the multicultural built of the England squad that won the trophy. On the field, there were a few rules conundrum that went to England’s favour and made their victory controversial.
Rashid, whose ancestors are from Pakistan, spoke highly about Morgan on Friday. The 31-year-old leg-break spinner said that Morgan uttering that Allah was with England was a big act. He said the England captain, who is an Irish by birth, earned respect from the Muslim world and it was his (Rashid) responsibility to assure him about an England win in the final and hence he said that the Almighty was with the hosts. Rashid had come out to bat at a crucial time in the final and sacrificed his wicket while saving Ben Stokes who was key for England to remain in the hunt.
Adil Rashid "For Eoin Morgan to say we had Allah with us was a big thing for him as a person. He has gained so much respect from Muslims around the world and, from my behalf, it was just to tell him that God was with us, don't worry" #CWC19Final #Cricket

Rashid, who was found to be evading the champagne party along with Moeen Ali, the other Muslim in the squad since alcohol is prohibited under Islam, took 11 wickets in this World Cup with the best of 3 for 54 against Australia in the semi-final in Birmingham. It was his maiden World Cup and he made his contribution.
Rashid joins the campaign to fight cancer
Meanwhile, Rashid joined a new campaign by Yorkshire Cancer Research, a charity that raises funds for its life-saving efforts. This is the charity’s maiden fund-raising programme in Yorkshire and Rashid was roped in to facilitate the launch. The charity eyes £10 million a year to help thousands of people in the country survive cancer every year.
