The Indian Premier League auction is a place where dreams and even fairytales are realized. In a matter of a few bids and the eventual knock of the hammer, it can propel to unprecedented riches. And, time and again we have seen that happen with a plethora of cricketers. Whenever a cricketer goes for a huge amount of money, there are generally two types of reactions that come from fans.
The first one is of being absolutely gobsmacked as to how one can shell out such a huge amount of money for a particular cricketer while the other one is of admiration. And, there is little doubt that Sheldon Cottrell racking up a whopping Rs 8.5 crore by Kings XI Punjab’s would have attracted more of the second reaction. Cottrell absolutely deserves it and everyone- whether it is fans or former cricketers- were elated with Cottrell getting an IPL contract.
The left-hander took to Twitter where he not only thanked the franchise and fans for their support but also said that his work has just begun besides assuring his fans that there will be lots of “salutes” in Mohali, come the IPL. Cottrel wrote, “My work has only just begun. Both excited and humbled to join @lionsdenkxip. I will repay your faith in me and ensure fans in Mohali get plenty of salutes. Looking forward to working with a great bunch of guys. This is the beginning of the battle but also the fun…

Sheldon Cottrell became the second-most expensive bowler in IPL 2020 auction
The left-handed bowler, Cottrell, first stormed into prominence courtesy his stellar show for the now-defunct Antigua Hawksbills against Barbados Tridents in the 2013 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) where he turned heads by claiming the likes of Dwayne Smith and Shakib Al Hasan.
Sheldon Cottrell, whose signature ‘Salute’ celebration has become a cult among the cricketing folklore was the West Indies’ highest wicket-taker- 12 wickets in nine games at an economy rate of 5.85- at the 2019 World Cup and barring the last ODI in Visakhapatnam, has been hugely impressive in the ongoing tour of India.
Cottrell also became the second most expensive bowler after Pat Cummins, who notched up a gobsmacking Rs 15.5 crores. Speaking of Cottrell’s performance in T20Is, the left-hander has claimed 30 wickets in 22 games at a strike-rate of 15.2 and an economy of 8.09.
