India picked a memorable win over New Zealand in the third T20I in Hamilton’s Seddon Park on Wednesday to clinch the five-match series 3-0. The match turned out to be a thriller which ended in a tie after 40 overs and the winners were determined in the Super Over with Rohit Sharma belting two back-to-back sixes. The Kiwis made 17 runs in the Super Over and India overhauled the target after a slow start, thanks to the Hitman’s heroics.
India came up with an all-round performance in the game to ensure that New Zealand did not get back into the series. Kiwi captain Kane Williamson was in an exquisite form (95 off 48) and almost took his side home but for Mohammed Shami.
The pacer bowled the final over of the New Zealand innings with them requiring just two off four balls. He picked Williamson in the third delivery as KL Rahul took his catch behind the wicket and then in the final ball, Shami bowled the experienced Ross Taylor to restrict New Zealand to 179 for 6 in 20 overs. Then, in a recreation of the ICC World Cup final last year, the Black Caps were defeated in yet another climax.
Sehwag praises Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami
Former India opener Virender Sehwag came up with a tweet in which he called India the “Gods” and praised both Rohit and Shami for their magnificent shows with the bat and ball respectively. He called the victory over the Kiwis a memorable one. Sehwag also posted a picture each of the ace batsman and the bowler. Rohit, who slammed 65 off 40 and was adjudged the Man of the Match for his stellar performance.
Aisa lagta hai apunich Bhagwan hai !
So fit for #RohitSharma the way he has made impossible tasks possible.
But defending 2 runs of 4 balls was an unbelievable effort from Shami.

This series victory will be special since New Zealand have always put India under pressure in the T20 format. Last year, under Rohit’s captaincy, India came very close to winning the T20I series but lost the deciding game by just four runs. In that way, this victory would be especially satisfying for the ace batsman.
