Jasprit Bumrah was all set to become one of the greatest bowlers in international cricket, however, his progress has been hampered with an untimely back injury which has been diagnosed as a minor stress fracture to his lower lumbar region. He was replaced by Umesh Yadav in the Indian squad for the upcoming South Africa Test series.
Bumrah made his white-ball India debut in 2016 and Test debut in 2018 against South Africa and since then has not looked back. So far Bumrah has 62 wickets in 12 Tests, 103 wickets in 58 ODIs and 51 wickets in 42 T20I matches for India and was set to make his debut in home Tests against South Africa. However, this will have to wait as he prepares for treatment and rehabilitation at the NCA.

India will play three Tests against South Africa in the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). Bumrah, who is the ranked 3rd in Test cricket was rested for the limited-overs part of the tour against Proteas. His last Test matches came against West Indies where he picked seven wickets in the second Test, including a hat-trick, making him the third Indian bowler to do so after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan.
He is also ranked no.1 in ODI cricket and was the highest wicket-taker for the Indian team in the ICC World Cup 2019. He is set to miss not only the South Africa series, but has also being ruled out of the Bangladesh series and the team management wants him to recover well and get back into the team 100% fit. This means they are targeting the T20I series against West Indies later this year for his return, given that he is a key bowler for Men in Blue when ICC T20World Cup 2020 is concerned.
