The ongoing Pakistan Super League season 5 has been jolted with the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus, also known as the coronavirus. The virus which is believed to be originated in the Wuhan Province of China, possibly by people consuming bat soups, has caused deaths of over 5,800 people all over the world so far.
More than 150,000 people have been affected by this virus, which has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Governments all over the world have advised people to stay indoors, use face masks and hand sanitizers for personal hygiene and avoid places with mass gatherings. This has led to the suspension of sporting events all over the world, affecting the PSL as well.
The ongoing season’s second half has been rescheduled and it will end earlier than expected. Also, the remaining matches, including the knockout games are expected to be played in empty stadiums behind closed doors. Many foreign players and support staff have left the season midway and returned back home as per their respective government’s advisory.
Chris Lynn shows his sense of humor
Meanwhile, Multan Sultans took on Lahore Qalandars in the National Stadium in Lahore amidst an empty stadium something that no cricket-loving country wants. However, Qalandars’ opener Chris Lynn showed some sense of humor in times of gloom when a wicket fell. It was Zeeshan Ashraf, who was foxed by Mohammad Hafeez in the air and popped a simple catch to Sohail Akhtar.
Chris Lynn who was on the mic having a chat with the commentary team, decided to comment, “Another one falls and the crowd goes wild,” to the amusement of many, given that the match was taking place in an empty stadium.

The tournament was reduced by four days and to 33 matches. “The final will be played on 18 March and will start at 7 pm. All these changes have been made with the consultation of the team owners,” a PCB statement said. Meanwhile, Islamabad United, the former two-time winners of the PSL, became the first team to be knocked out of the race for the playoffs, with just 3 wins from 10 matches and 7 points to their name.
