Despite Shikhar Dhawan scoring a blistering ton, Delhi Capitals (DC) were left to get 17 runs in the final over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday. With Dwayne Bravo injured, MS Dhoni had to go to Ravindra Jadeja, the left-arm spinner, with two left-handers batting in the middle. Axar Patel and Dhawan were under pressure to get the team over the line.

To make things worse, the latter got off strike off the first ball itself and the bowler had bowled a wide to start the over which meant DC still needed 15 off five balls. Axar hadn’t batted much earlier in the season and there were tense faces in his team’s camp.

However, the southpaw wasn’t flustered by all of it and just tonked three massive sixes to help his team win the thriller. The Delhi fans were delighted to see Axar Patel smack those maximums even as DC jumped to the top of points table with their seventh win in nine matches. Interestingly, there is still a twist in the tale.

Axar Patel had hilariously predicted his six-hitting spree in an Instagram comment three days before his heroics while responding to his teammate Ishant Sharma. The pacer had asked him to hit sixes as his comment read, “need sixes from u bapu.” To this, the DC all-rounder had wittily stated that his time will come. “Apna time ayega,” Axar’s reply read.

As destiny had it, Axar Patel managed to win his team a game with his massive sixes against the MS Dhoni-led side in the very next encounter.

Axar Patel has been unsung hero of Delhi Capitals this season. He is the third most economical bowler of the season so far among the players who have bowled 15 or more overs. The left-arm has bowled 27 overs in eight innings and has picked up seven wickets at an exceptional economy rate of 5.59. Only Rashid Khan and Chris Morris have done better than him and Axar will be hoping to continue the good work with both bat and ball for his team.
