In the past, Indian players who got dropped from the team in the middle of tours alleged that they were not informed about the same. Discarded Test opener Murali Vijay is one such cricketer. And now, the Indian selectors have come under the scanner with questions on whether they are communicating enough with the squad members. It has been said that some players are picked and dropped from the squad often and hence they should be kept informed about the reasons.
The selectors are already facing the heat following India’s exit from the recent cricket World Cup in the semi-finals after losing to New Zealand closely. Their selection of certain players came under questioning and even their calls over excluding players like Shubman Gill for the upcoming West Indies tour were criticised by many.
But the latest complaint is that the selectors are communicating enough with players who often go in and out of the team. This has raised the question whether players like Shubman, who played excellently during the ODI series against West Indies A or members of the World Cup squad like Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar or Mayank Agarwal have been told the reason for their exclusion.
“Gill, I understand. They might possibly play him in a home series and take it from there. Some other deserving players are back, which is good. Some decisions are baffling, which has been more or less a norm. But what’s more intriguing here is whether the selectors have tried talking to these players over the last 24 months. Telling them what they see or have in store for them?” Times of India quoted those who have been following the team closely as saying.
BCCI has no policy of selectors communicating with players
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India doesn’t have a policy that allows the selectors to communicate frequently with the players about their decisions and according to past selectors, speaking to all players at all times can be a very demanding task and not possible always either. But then, somebody needs to win the confidence of fringe players. Who is doing that duty at the moment?
