The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to promote inclusion and diversity during the third Ashes Test match at Headingley. The official broadcaster of the series, Sky Sports, has also joined hands with the board and throughout the Test will be focusing on a series of ECB initiatives which are designed to make cricket accessible to the wider audience.
This Test match will also be known as ‘The Participation Test’ as well with the three days showcasing some of the highlights of the sport. The first day will showcase England’s thrilling World Cup win earlier in the summer. The tournament managing director Steve Elworthy and Nick Pryde, the ECB director of participation and growth will reflect on the way the competition and the home team’s victory continues to inspire the next generation.
Day two will explain the ECB award-winning South Asian Action plan according to Sky Sports’ official website. The non-executive board member Lord Patel will join the city’s programme manager Shruti Saujani to discuss the steps taken to improve the access to cricket facilities to urban areas.
Focus on England’s disability team
Day three will show England’s physical disability team’s efforts. They will go behind the scenes and speak to Ian Martin, the ECB’s head of disability cricket about the team’s performance in the inaugural World Series which held last week and England were the runners up even as India managed to win the tournament.
Speaking about the initiative, Sky’s Head of Cricket Bryan Henderson is excited with this venture and feels that many will be inspired with these stories and the Ashes series gives them an opportunity to showcase great work on inclusion and diversity.
“Everyone at Sky Sports is looking forward to an even closer partnership with the ECB. It will give us the chance to tell the stories of inspiring even more people to engage with the game. The profile and interest of an Ashes series also gives us a great opportunity to shine a light on the great work on inclusion and diversity at all levels,” he said.
