The likes of Brendon McCullum and Brett Lee were two of the most competitive cricketers when they graced the field. While the former’s aggression defined his career, Lee had extreme pace in his armoury which used to send shivers down batsmen’s spine. It goes without saying that the contest was fierce when these two cricketers faced against each other on the field.

It happened in the 2011 edition of the Big Bash League, Australia’s premier domestic T20 tournament. Brendon McCullum was playing for the Brisbane Heat while Brett Lee represented Sydney Sixers. During one of the matches between the two teams, the pacer delivered a fierce bouncer to McCullum who took on the challenge and went for the pull.

However, the batsman missed it and the ball ended up hitting him on the helmet. The pace of the ball hitting the helmet led to the bleeding from Brendon McCullum’s nose. Lee had immediately shown his concern towards the batsman even as the physio had to attend him.

With the 2020-21 edition of the BBL set to commence next month, the official Digital content Twitter handle of Cricket Australia (CA) tweeted the same video in a throwback post in their series of #20in2020.

Brett Lee apologises to Brendon McCullum first

After looking at the video almost nine years down the line, Brett Lee apologised to the former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum understanding the impact the delivery had on the batsman. However, the latter saw the lighter side of his tweet and trolled the Aussie pacer hilariously. McCullum, in his reply, took a cheeky dig at his counterpart saying that at least one of his deliveries bounced.

Post their respective cricket careers, Brendon McCullum has taken up the coaching job and was at the helm for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. On the other hand, Brett Lee was the analyst for IPL’s official broadcaster Star Sports and has been doing the commentary job for years now.
