Pakistan recently celebrated the return of Test cricket to their country as Sri Lanka visited for a two-match series, which the home side won 1-0. The first match at Rawalpindi proved to be a dud due to weather, but Azhar Ali’s side won the Karachi Test match and pocketed the series, along with their first points in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Abid Ali won the Man of the Series award for his two centuries in his first two Tests.
PCB Chief Ehsan Mani, along with other officials of the board, should be commended for convincing Sri Lanka to send their main players for the Test series, especially after the emerald islanders had sent a below-par team for the limited-overs series a few months ago. It has to be noted that Sri Lanka was the last team to tour Pakistan in 2009, which was cut short by a terrorist attack on the team bus.
Ehsan Mani says at the current time, India is a more dangerous country to tour
Talking about the successful hosting of Sri Lankans, Ehsan Mani said that now no other team should have any problems touring the Asian giants given that they had proved the country was secured. “We have proved that Pakistan is safe, if someone isn’t coming then they should prove that it’s unsafe. At this time, India is a far greater security risk than Pakistan,” Mani was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“No one should now doubt security arrangements in Pakistan after successful Sri Lanka Test series. This is a turning point for the revival of Test cricket in Pakistan. Media and fans played an important role in portraying a positive image of Pakistan worldwide,” Mani added.
He further talked about Bangladesh touring Pakistan, who are due to play three T20Is and two Tests in January. He mentioned that he is hopeful of Bangladesh touring Pakistan and said that if Sri Lanka could tour the country, why couldn’t other teams do the same given that Sri Lanka had no problems in coming for a two-Test series. Pakistan is also looking to convince Australia to tour the country, given that the team has not visited since 1998.
