After squaring the 4-match Test series at the MCG, India will be facing Australia in the 3rd Test at the SCG starting on Thursday. The Indian team, further hit by injury concerns, set to hand the Test cap to Navdeep Saini while Rohit Sharma walks into the team as the vice-captain. A win in Sydney will help India to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also strengthen their chances of a Test Championship Final. Australia, aiming to take the lead, will be boosted by the presence of David Warner at the top.
Here are all the key stats and numbers ahead of the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy match at the SCG:
1 – Indian team has managed to win only one Test out of 12 appearances at the Sydney cricket ground till date – by innings and 2 runs in 1978. India played a total of 35 matches in International cricket at the SCG against Australia but managed to win only six of them and losing 22.
India’s win-loss ratio of 0.272 against Australia at the SCG is the lowest for them at any venue where they played 20+ matches against the home side.
4 – David Warner has scored as many as four centuries in Test cricket at the Sydney cricket ground; the joint 2nd most by any player at this venue. Across 8 Test matches he played at the SCG, Warner aggregated 732 runs in 13 innings at an average of 66.54.
5 – Rohit Sharma, who is set to play the SCG Test, has been dismissed five times off Nathan Lyon in ten Test innings on Australian soil. He has scored 103 runs from the 187 balls he faced against Lyon at an average of 20.6. However, Sharma aggregated 91 runs at the cost of one dismissal against the current pace trio of Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood.
9 – David Warner has a batting average of 9 in Test cricket against Ravichandran Ashwin on Australian soil. Ashwin dismissed Warner on four occasions across five meetings in Australia where he scored 36 runs in 80 balls. However, in India, Ashwin got the better of Warner on five instances in 12 innings by conceding 146 runs.
17 – The pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah (16), Mohammed Siraj (1) and Navdeep Saini (Debut) have collectively played a total of 17 Test matches ahead of the SCG Test. This is the least experienced pace unit of India in a Test match since the 2014 Manchester Test against England where the trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (9), Pankaj Singh (1) and Varun Aaron (1) had a collective experience of 11 Tests before the match.
394 – Nathan Lyon needs six more wickets to become just the 3rd Australian to bag 400 wickets in Test cricket. Lyon will also become only the 3rd right-arm off-spinner with 400 Test wickets when he adds six more wickets to his tally.
1926 – Ravindra Jadeja needs 74 more runs to complete 2000 runs in Test cricket. He will then become only the 5th Indian to achieve the double of 2000+ runs and 200+ wickets in the longer format.
5903 – Runs Cheteshwar Pujara has aggregated during his 79-match Test career thus far. The No.3 batsman needs 97 more runs to become the 11th Indian with 6000 runs in Test cricket.
14964 – David Warner has scored 14964 runs in his International career thus far and is only 36 runs away from becoming the 8th Australian to aggregate 15000 International runs.
