On Tuesday, January 19, India ended Australia’s 32-year unbeaten streak in Test cricket at The Gabba in Brisbane. The three-wicket win was a memorable one for Ajinkya Rahane and Co since in their last six games at the venue, they lost five, drawing one. There were rain interruptions during the game, but despite having most odds against them, India rose like a phoenix from the ashes.
On the final day’s play, India needed 304 runs to win with all their wickets in hand. They lost Rohit Sharma early to Pat Cummins. However, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill helped them stage a comeback. In the end, it was Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89 that got the visiting team over the line.
In the meantime, the Australian fans were mightily disappointed with the home team. However, one of the fans, from the crowd, wearing the Aussie jersey, showed his support for Team India. The supporter was heard, saying, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.

Rahane pleased with Team India
Rahane, after the victory, lauded his teammates for showing a character in the crunch moments. He credited Pujara for absorbing all the pressure. The skipper mentioned that rather than overthinking on the Adelaide defeat, India aimed at playing the game with the right attitude.
“I don’t know how to describe this, but our boys showed a lot of character and determination after the Adelaide Test. I’m really proud of each individual. The conversation between Pujara and me was that he would bat normal, and I would take it on. It was all about intent,” Rahane said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Credit to Pujara, the way he handled the pressure was magnificent. Rishabh and Washington were very good at the end. Taking 20 wickets was the key, so we opted for 5 bowlers. Sundar brought the balance in place of Jadeja. The intention was clear to play five bowlers.”
“Siraj played two Tests, Saini just one, so it was inexperienced but the character shown by the bowlers and everyone else was incredible. We didn’t discuss anything about Adelaide. Just played wanted to play the remaining games with good attitude and character,” he added.
