The recent Test series between England and Pakistan saw hosts winning the three-match Test series by 1-0 held at. Ever since the series has ended, Pakistan fans are little disappointed with the latest batting star Babar Azam‘s performance even though he pulled off an unbeaten fifty during the 2nd innings of the final Test. He scored 195 runs in three Tests at an average of 48.75, including two fifties.
The limited-overs captain for Pakistan has often been compared to one of the finest batsmen in the world, Virat Kohli. This is the reason why a little more was expected of him in the recent Test series against England. Pakistan commentator and former cricketer Ramiz Raja gave his opinions on the same matter.
“The good thing is that when Babar bats, he looks aesthetically beautiful to watch. He plays the cover, and on drive well, he has time to play his shots. He didn’t get the big numbers in England, but the moment he walks in and starts his innings, you know that there’s quality to him,” said Ramiz Raja, as quoted by The Times of India.
Talking about his comparison with Virat Kohli, the former cricketer said that he still needs to master the art of winning matches, and it will come to him with time.
The comparison with Virat Kohli is not justified, says Ramiz Raja
“The comparison with Virat is not justified. Virat is a match-winner. Babar has played only a handful of Tests. He’s finding his way through the international circuit. However, it must be great for him to be compared to Kohli. I don’t think that it brings pressure on him,” Ramiz Raja added.
The commentator believes that Pakistan wants their Babar Azam to score big in order to win the matches. Stating that he is only 25 years old, Ramiz felt it is great for the talented batsman to be compared to likes of Kohli.
“This Pakistan batting line-up needs him to score massively. What he has to do is become a match-winner now. He needs to learn that from Kohli. And he’s got the potential. He’s only 25. I feel that with time, he’ll get better. Next time when he goes to England, it will be a bit like Kohli — he will be more at home playing swing and seam,” concluded Raja.
