The air quality in Delhi is crossing the levels which can be hazardous for the residents. Moreover, Team India is scheduled to play their first T20I of the three-match series in Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and it can be a difficult task for the players to play under such a stiff environment.
There were rife speculations that the venue of the first T20I can be changed but Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the match will not be shifted away from the city. Bangladesh players arrived in India on 30th October and had their first training session on Thursday.
Liton Das wears mask; clarifies the reason
There were some pictures that went viral on Twitter of Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das, who was spotted wearing a mask during the first training session of their team. In the picture, it looked like he was having a problem due to the bad air. But, later on, he clarified the fact that he’s having a health issue and he didn’t wear mask because of the weather, ” I wore the mask because of a problem that I have. And it is not because of the weather. The conditions are fine,” Das said as quoted by News 18.
A BCCI official also recited that it is a night match, so it will not be a major problem for the teams but their practice sessions can turn out to be one. So, there can be optional training sessions but that depends on the weather.
“The match shouldn’t be a major problem as it is a night match, but the issue is the training (set for the mornings) and you could see optional training sessions on both the days if the weather doesn’t improve. This isn’t a fresh season and the players have already been playing so some gym sessions should be enough to get them up and running after the Diwali break,” BCCI official said as quoted by India Today.
It was also reported that Rohit Sharma and Co. were planning to have indoor training and got a window between 2 pm to 5 pm. Earlier, former Indian skipper Gautam Gambhir had also shown his concern and felt that Delhi should not host a sporting event until the pollution levels are brought under control.
