Hobart Hurricanes have found themselves in a bit of a hole in the 2019-20 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). The team, led by Matthew Wade, is currently placed seven in the points table with six points from nine matches. Their net run rate of -0.896 is also the worst amongst the participating teams. The Hurricanes are next scheduled to lock horns with the Sydney Sixers at the iconic SCG.
In their last meeting, the Hurricanes bowled the Sixers out for 104 while defending 129. The Sixers have made progress ever since and have 12 points from nine matches. Moises Hurricanes’ men are coming of a 44-run loss at the hands of Melbourne Stars and they will be keen to make amends next time around. On head-to-head at the SCG, the Sixers have won three out of the five times.
Pitch and Conditions
In the previous three games at the SCG, the chasing teams came out trumps twice. Batting second should be the way forward. The pitch has been fairly decent for batting, but bowlers can extract a lot out of the surface. There are chances of rain with thunderstorms, especially from 8 pm onwards. The temperature will be around the 22 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity mostly in the 80s and 90s.
The Sixers have roped in pacer Henry Thornton in place of Josh Hazlewood, who’s on international duty. Josh Phillipe has been their standout batter with 270 runs at 38.57. James Vince and Daniel Hughes need to show a bit more consistency. The likes of Moises Henriques and Tom Curran can also smack the leather. In bowling, the trio of Curran, Ben Dwarshuis and Jackson Bird will hold the key.

The Hurricanes have included batsman Mac Wright, replacing Simon Milenko. Their batting is terribly out of form. In the current squad, Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott are leading the run-charts with 171 and 167 runs respectively. Matthew Wade and George Bailey’s role will be critical. Qais Ahmad has 11 wickets to his name. Scott Boland is in reasonable form with seven wickets.
