Both Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder are set for their last round-robin games in the 2019-20 edition of the BBL. The match is scheduled to be played at the Sydney Showground Stadium. The Thunder lost their first two matches at the venue, but came back with back-to-back victories. Callum Ferguson and Co now need a victory to have any chance of qualifying for the subsequent round.
They need to make amends after losing their previous two encounters. The Scorchers, on the other hand, are placed fourth in the points table. Mitchell Marsh and Co need to ensure that they take care of their net run rate which is currently at -0.005. The Scorchers are also coming off a 16-run defeat at the hands of the Adelaide Strikers and it’s a chance for them to get some momentum back.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch has been decent one for batting and the bowlers haven’t found it easy by any means. However, chasing teams have found themselves in comfortable situations most times. The conditions will remain cloudy with chances of rain. The heavens may open up severely from 5 pm onwards. The temperature will be around the 29 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the 70s.
The Thunder have depended heavily on their top-order. Alex Hales is in decent form, having scored 402 runs with four half-centuries. Skipper Ferguson and Usman Khawaja have been reasonable enough at the top of the order. Alex Ross has held the middle-order together with 275 runs. In bowling, Sams and Chris Morris have shouldered the mantle with a combined tally of 34 wickets.
Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson (C), Alex Ross, Chris Morris, Jay Lenton (wk), Daniel Sams, Arjun Nair, Gurinder Sandhu, Jonathan Cook, Liam Bowe
The Scorchers have made one change in their squad, Morne Morkel has replaced Chris Jordan for the remainder of the season. Morkel will have big shoes to fill as Jordan was their leading wicket-taker. The onus will also be on Richardson and Fawad with 14 wickets each. The opening duo of Inglis and Livingstone will be key. Cameron Bancroft and Mitchell Marsh have to step up as well.
Josh Inglis (wk), Liam Livingstone, Kurtis Patterson, Mitchell Marsh (C), Ashton Turner, Cameron Bancroft, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, Morne Morkel, Matthew Kelly, Fawad Ahmed
