Sydney Thunder extended their winning streak to five matches as they got the better of Melbourne Renegades by 7 runs on DLS method. Despite early wickets, Shaun Marsh (87 off 48) batted with intent to ensure his team break the losing spree. He alongside Mohammad Nabi added 90 runs for the 4th wicket in only 8.5 overs as the Renegades finished with 166/6 in the restricted 17 overs.
Thunder got a revised target of 173 in 17 overs and began the chase with a 52-run opening stand coming in just four overs as Alex Hales struck a 19-ball 45. Usman Khawaja scored an unbeaten 34-ball 48 as Thunder moved to 117/2 after 12 overs. The rain returned at this stage to settle the match on the basis of DLS in the favour of Thunder.

1 – Sydney Thunder has defeated Melbourne Renegades twice in a BBL season for the first time. They registered a 129-run win over the Renegades earlier this week on Boxing Day. Before this season, Thunder won only two of their 11 meetings in the BBL against the Renegades.

5 – Sydney Thunder now have won each of their last five matches in the BBL which is their longest winning streak in the league history. Thunder’s previous four wins in this streak came while playing at the Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
In fact, this match extended the losing streak of Renegades to five in this season which is only behind their 9-match losing streak at the start of 2019-20 season.

87 – Shaun Marsh’s 87-run knock is now the highest individual score during the BBL games between Thunder and Renegades. The previous highest score was recorded by Chris Gayle who made 75 for the Thunder during the 2011-12 season. Overall, Marsh’s 87 is now the 4th highest individual score for Renegades in the BBL and the 4th highest by any team against the Thunder.
Milestones for Marsh:
3062 – Shaun Marsh became only the 2nd player to aggregate 3000+ runs in the Twenty20 format on Australian soil when he went past his individual score of 25 during REN vs THU game. Aaron Finch was the first player with this feat and has 3716 runs to his tally thus far.
104 – The first of the five sixes struck by Shaun was his 100th maximum on Australian soil in the T20 format. He is the 4th player after Chris Lynn, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell to have hit over 100 T20 sixes on Australian soil.
203 – The second hit for a six turned out to be the 200th six struck by Marsh in his Twenty20 career overall. The senior Marsh brother is now the 10th Australian to hit as many as 200 maximums in the Twenty20 format.
