Many were stunned after it was reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) received an email about a possible attack on Team India in the West Indies. Acting responsibly, they informed the ICC of the same. Moreover, the BCCI also received the same email which later turned out to be a hoax threat. Despite that, it has made the Indian High Commission in Antigua aware of the threat.
The Indian team is currently playing the three-day practice game in Antigua and the second day’s play was in progress when the news came out. However, it was later reported that the email was a hoax terror threat and the team is absolutely safe in the Caribbean islands.
Also, after BCCI’s intimation the High Commission in Antigua, they have passed on the information to the local government who are assessing the situation at the moment.
Security increased
“We have informed the security agencies and it has been found out that it was a hoax email. We informed the High Commission in Antigua and they have in turn informed the local government over there. The security is being monitored and if needed be will be beefed up adequately. As of now, they are still getting the same level of security,” the BCCI official said.
The BCCI is taking all the measures to ensure that the security of the team isn’t compromised. India Today has reported that the Indian team’s security has been beefed up after the terror threat.
“We have briefed the home ministry and shared the email. The embassy in Antigua has also been contacted and briefed. The Mumbai police has also been informed and the security of the Indian team in the West Indies has been beefed up,” the BCCI CEO Rahul Johri was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
As far as the warm-up game is concerned, the Indian bowlers bundled out the home team for 181 runs and then lost Mayank Agarwal early in the second innings. India ended the second day on 84/1 with Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari unbeaten in the middle.
