India is a cricket crazy country and it is kept equivalent to a religion. Every day in India lakhs of players are practicing the game to get a chance to feature in the biggest leagues that are associated with this sport. If anyone gets the chance to play in the national squad, then it will be a dream come true for a player in his life.
But, since India is a country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, in that case, players from grassroots to Ranji have found a way that can get them a chance to secure their place in the squads of any national tournament and it is affecting the culture of cricket in India.
Now, the players of any group have started committing age frauds so that they can be selected in big tournaments. In India, BCCI follows a pattern of age-group cricket in the nation. According to this pattern, the player can get to play in a certain age group till a certain age number, after that he needs to work hard to get selected in the upper age group, but due to tough competition in this field of sport, they commit some age frauds that help them to prolong their cricket career, but now BCCI has taken some strict actions to stop the age fraud prevailing in the country.
BCCI introduces a 24/7 helpline for age fraud
Earlier, Board had introduced an anti-doping helpline in which Anti-Doping & Anti-Corruption personnel were asked to spread awareness across the teams and associations to approach the respective cells in case of any drug queries, corrupt approaches. Now they have launched a 24/7 helpline to stop age fraud with zero-tolerance.
A couple of days, Rahul Dravid the former Indian cricketer who is currently the director of National Cricket Academy spoke about the age fraud going on in the country in an award function and feels that it is affecting the cricket culture in the country and the talented boys are not getting the chance to play, “Age fraud leads to an erosion of culture, It leads to a scenario where a lot of talented boys don’t get to play, when they should actually be playing. “It is up to the maidan (ground) secretaries, the owners of the official teams, the club teams to ensure that this does not happen.” Rahul Dravid told in his speech.
Dravid being strict towards the age fraud, he passed on a rule that no player that had appeared in a junior World Cup would be allowed to play in the next edition, even if he was within the required age limit during his time with Indian junior teams.
