The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) Dhiraj Malhotra is all set to replace Saba Karim as the new General Manager for Game Development of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The position of General Manager for Game Development (GM) was empty since last month as Saba had ended her three year long stint with the Indian Board after serving a notice period of six months
Dhiraj Malhotra can be considered as one of the most appropriate candidates for this prestigious post as in his two decade long journey in cricket fraternity, he has held many senior positions for the International Cricket Council (ICC) along with being responsible for overseeing cricket operations of various ICC events.
The Game Development Manager at BCCI will be responsible for determining and monitoring the match playing regulations, standards of venues, including pitches and outfields besides administration of the Domestic Tours Programme as quoted by the official website of the Indian cricket board.
BCCI confirmed roping Dhiraj Malhotra as their official Game Development (GM) on Friday, February 12. Also, Dhiraj will be taking over the esteemed position in the office from Monday, February 15.
“Yes, Dhiraj Malhotra has been formally appointed as GM (Game Development). He will be joining from Monday, February 15,” a senior BCCI source said as quoted by News 18 on Friday.
Dhiraj’s joining Delhi franchise coincided with two of their best seasons: BCCI source
BCCI is confident that the inclusion of Malhotra will help the board in flourishing and his experience of working in ICC operations and as CEO of Delhi Capitals will be beneficial. Dhiraj had a commendable stint with Capitals as in the 2019 edition the team reached the playoffs while in the 2020 edition they made their maiden appearance in the final of the league but failed to lift the trophy after facing defeat against Mumbai Indians in the final.
“Dhiraj’s joining Delhi franchise coincided with two of their best seasons, including a play-offs and second-place finish. Also when he was with DC, he was asked to help out at the ICC World Cup in England due to his vast knowledge,” the source said
