Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI President acknowledged that the board has proposed an idea to introduce IPL Hall of fame in the 88th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai on Sunday. During the meet, quite a few decisions were taken to amend the board policies that will be put forward to the apex court in the upcoming days.
Indian Premier League has emerged as one of the biggest T20 cricket leagues that are held across the globe. Its first season got underway back in 2008 and since then it has received lots of love from the fans as well from the former cricketing greats. The upcoming IPL will be the successive 13th season of the tournament.
Sourav Ganguly led BCCI proposed a new development ahead of IPL 2020
The former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly said that they want to reward the players, who have delivered some exceptional performances in the Indian T20 tournament. It will get underway in its 13th season in the upcoming months, so it is a good idea to hail players for their contribution. “IPL hall of fame for players who have delivered exceptional performance in the T20 league,” the 46-year-old said after the AGM as quoted by India Today.
One more decision that attracted the sight of the critics and fans was the dilution of MSK Prasad led selection committee. Ganguly after the meeting recited that the tenure of the selection panel cannot go extended. He also added that they did a good job. “Tenures are finished. You cannot go beyond tenure. They have done a good job. We will fix a term for selectors and it is not right to appoint selectors every year,” he further said.
The decision by the board also made it clear that they had gone with the model in which the panel can only hold the responsibility for four years. Prasad was appointed as the chief selector in 2015. During his tenure, the fans along with former cricketers had also raised questions about his credibility and selection criteria while picking the squad.
Also, there are reports, that if the latest amendments in BCCI reforms got a nod from the Supreme court, then Sourav Ganguly’s current nine-month stint can get an extension until 2024.
