India’s legendary slow left-arm orthodox bowler Bishan Singh Bedi had complained of suffering some heart issues a few days back and was thus admitted to a renowned hospital in Delhi. Following the heart problems, the 74-year-old veteran cricketer underwent a bypass surgery 2-3 days back in the hospital.
However, the good news is that the surgery went well for Bedi and it is expected that the doctors can discharge him from the hospital soon in the near future. A close confidant of the former Indian captain and a person well-aware about the condition of the cricketer assured that he is getting better and will be soon out of the hospital.

“As far as I know, he was having some heart issues and he underwent a bypass surgery 2-3 days back on the advice of the doctors. He is currently doing fine and recovering from the surgery and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon,” the person close to Bishan Singh Bedi said as quoted by Times of India.
Bishan Singh Bedi’s career at a glance
Born in Amritsar, Punjab on September 25, 1945, Bishan Singh Bedi started his journey in the world of cricket at the tender age of 15 as he was picked by a state side, Northern Punjab. A few years later after honing his skills, the spinner moved to Delhi and represented the side in the domestic circuit till his retirement in 1981.
The left-arm spinner featured in 370 First-class and 72 List-A fixtures scalping a whopping 1560 and 71 wickets at an economy of 2.25 and 3.40 respectively. He also has 3584 1st class and 218 List A runs under his belt. Till now, the legendary cricketer holds the record of picking the maximum number of wickets in first-class cricket for India.
After some stellar performances in the domestic circuit, Bedi finally made his debut for India at the age of 21 against West Indies in a Test game on December 31, 1966. In his glorious international career, the 74-year-old featured in 67 Test matches picking 266 wickets at an economy of 2.22 and average of 28.7.
