The athleticism of cricketers has improved a lot in recent years. A lot of times the young players fascinate us with their sharp catches and breathtaking dives on the cricket field. The sport, however, is not being played from quite a few months because of the pandemic. The only place where it is being played in the home of cricket itself, England.
The Southampton Test between England and Pakistan was heavily affected due to rain, but cricket in England never disappoints its fans. In a county game, Kent contested the county giant Middlesex in the ongoing Bob Wills Trophy. On the first day, the action caught one of the English pace prospects Matt Milnes. In the overcast conditions, the speedster got all the attention of the game.
Matt Milnes’ presence of mind
The pacer from Kent took an amazing catch on his bowling to dismiss Max Holden. It was arguably the most interesting decision of the tournament till now. Milnes jammed the batsman on the pads and started appealing for leg before wicket. The umpire shook his head but what happened next was the centrepiece.
The ball before hitting the pads edged the bat and looped up in the air after touching the pads. As the ball was in the air the bowler turned 360 degrees after appealing for LBW and grabbed the ball. The umpire raised the finger immediately for the catch appeal and the bowling team started to celebrate. The southpaw from Middlesex Max Holden couldn’t believe it and stayed there for a moment but eventually went back to the pavilion.
The level of fitness has increased in cricket quite alarmingly and excelling in one part of the game is not enough for any player. The top-notch delivery from Milnes still required great flexibility to take a catch to dismiss the batsman.
