In September, when popular actor Kajal Aggarwal revealed the names of her two favourite Indian cricketers as Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, the supporters of Rohit Sharma were not impressed. However, they have got their opportunity now, thanks to another actor Priyanka Chopra who has named Rohit as one of her favourites. The other name she took is that of Kohli.
Speaking to Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the ongoing India-South Africa Test in Visakhapatnam, the 37-year-old Priyanka said Kohli and Rohit are her favourite cricketers as she personally knows both. Rohit has smashed 176 in the first innings of the Test match in 244 balls to take his team to a commanding position.
He put up 317 runs with his fellow opener Mayank Agarwal who hit 215 runs in what is his maiden Test match at home. Priyanka, who has made her fortunes in the American film and television industries, married eminent singer and songwriter Nick Jonas last year. She revealed how a cricket match was organised during her wedding with the American singer.
The match was between Team Bride and Team Groom that was eventually won by the former. The actor, who is also a goodwill ambassador of the United Nations, also said that while Nick is a good baseball player, he wasn’t as good in cricket which is played differently even though the two sports look similar in execution.
Priyanka cheered for India at WC; her in-laws for England
Priyanka also spoke about an incident that happened during the ICC World Cup in England a few months ago. While she was cheering India in the match against England at Edgbaston, her in-laws were supporting the hosts. India lost that match by 31 runs – one of their two losses in the tournament. Both of Priyanka’s favourite cricketers – Kohli and Rohit – got runs in that game and added 138 runs for the second wicket in less than 26 overs. While Rohit hit a hundred, Kohli fell for 66.
After the World Cup, there were reports of friction between Kohli and Rohit – the vice-captain in the limited-over versions – although the authorities downplayed it and Kohli continued as the skipper in all the three formats.
