Every T20 team usually has several bases to cover while picking the squad or the eleven and it is no different in the BPL. Picking the correct squad includes finding the right balance, having a good mixture of youth and experience, picking the power-hitters and the all-rounders, and selecting the right set of batsmen and the bowlers.
Apart from these players, every side picks a player who they believe would be the trump card for them. These players are absolute game-changers and have the capability of turning the game upside down. While these players might not be amongst the most consistent performers, they can surely win a few matches on their own.
Here is the trump card for each of the seven BPL teams:
1. Sherfane Rutherford – Sylhet Thunder

He could still be in the early days of his career but Sherfane Rutherford is surely making waves all across the globe with his talent. At just 21 years of age, the West Indies cricketer managed to make his international debut for the West Indies in T20I cricket. While he hasn’t made an impact yet at the highest level, his numbers in domestic cricket and other T20 tournaments all across the world have been quite impressive.
In BPL 2019-20, Sherfane Rutherford will be making his debut in the league. Thus far in his career, the left-hander has played in a total of 30 T20 games. He scored 379 runs at a strike rate of 135 and is a handy bowling option.
In this upcoming edition of the BPL, Sherfane could get quite a few opportunities considering the composition of the squad. However, he will have to take this chance with both his hands and should look to play responsible cricket. His performances in this league could potentially shape his career and give him a few more breaks at a young age.
2. Imad Wasim – Chattogram Challengers

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim will be making his BPL debut this year and will represent the Chattogram Challengers. He is a regular feature in the limited-overs sides of Pakistan and is an important member of their plans. In the shortest format of the game, the 30-year-old is a game-changer.
Imad is another one of those players who could win you a few games on his own. He has got the experience of playing in various T20 leagues around the world. He has earlier played in the CPL, PSL and England’s domestic tournaments.
The England-born cricketer has played 166 T20 games so far in his career. He mustered nearly 1500 runs at a decent strike rate of 125. Imad is a very handy bowler and delivers tight lines and lengths. He is someone who is capable of bowling at any stage of an innings.
3. Kusal Perera – Cumilla Warriors

If you have watched Sanath Jayasuriya closely, you’d find an uncanny resemblance between him and Kusal Perera. The young cricketer seems like a replica of his idol and powerful forearms. With his short backlift, he generates great power in his shots which often stuns many.
Perera might not be one of those cricketers who has played in a lot of T20 leagues. However, the 29-year-old has got a good amount of experience in the shortest format and understands its nuances well. Moreover, him being a wicket-keeper in an added advantage for any team that he is in.
Kusal played 96 T20s thus far in his career. He scored 2,127 runs in the format at an average of 24 and strike rate of 132. If he manages to deliver consistently, he can be a great asset for the Warriors. Moreover, he can be flexible with his batting position as well.
4. Asif Ali – Dhaka Platoon

Pakistan has been in search of a lower-order power-hitting batsman for a very long time. Thanks to the PSL, they managed to find a brilliant hitter in the form of Asif Ali. His exposure to this domestic T20 league has thrown him in the prominence and he was soon able to make his international debut.
Asif Ali strikes the ball extremely hard and is capable of clearing any fence with ease. He is another one of those Pakistan players who will be making his BPL debut this year. The 28-year-old is vastly experienced in the shortest format of the game and has scored nearly 2900 runs in 143 games.
His strike rate of 148 is highly impressive and he is a game-changer. Asif can be used in two ways by the Platoon. They can either slot him down the order and use him purely as a finisher. Or else, they can give him more responsibility and ask him to bat up the order.
5. Mohammad Amir – Khulna Tigers

T20 could be a format that is tailor-made for the batsmen. But you can’t do away without having a good bowling attack. The RCB team is a very good example of this. For every side, it is important to have a good bowler who not only contains runs but also picks important wickets.
One good spell can completely lift the morale of the team and bowlers can also win you games. The Khulna Tigers will hope that Mohammad Amir does the same for them in the upcoming season. Amir has been around for a long time and is a great player to have in the shortest format.
In the 142 T20 games that he’s played so far in his career, the 27-year-old picked up 169 wickets. He even decided to retire from Test cricket to concentrate on white-ball cricket. Mohammad Amir’s economy rate, which is slightly under 7, is very impressive for someone who operates in the powerplay and towards the end.
6. Andre Russell – Rajshahi Royals

Which team in the world wouldn’t want to have Andre Russell in its set-up? He is one of the most lethal cricketers that T20 cricket has ever witnessed. There could be issues with his fitness. But it doesn’t matter how many games he’ll play as he is capable of winning them all alone.
In the last few months, the cricketer has been in exceptional form and it is tough to bowl at him. With the kind of power that he possesses, he can smash you to any part of the ground and change the course of a game. Moreover, he has shown that he enjoys taking responsibility and has preferred batting up the order.
The Rajshahi Royals will want to be the best use of him in whatever games possible. Moreover, he is quite good with the ball as well. In 15 BPL matches so far, he scored 299 runs at a strike rate of 157 and will want a few more runs against his name this season.
7. Mohammad Nabi – Rangpur Rangers

Mohammad Nabi is the perfect package to have in a side that has got the likes of Shai Hope and Cameron Delport along with local talents like Naim Sheikh. With the composition of the Rangpur Rangers and given the inexperience in the middle order, Nabi can be of great value to the team.
He can possibly be sent to bat higher up the order to bat. Since he has got both the aggressive and the defensive game, he can adapt to various situations easily and make the maximum impact. Moreover, Nabi is street smart with the ball in hand.
His is highly accurate with the ball and often hits the areas from where the batsmen find it difficult to hit the ball. The Afghanistan cricketer has scored over 3,600 runs in the 238 T20 games that he played in his career. He even picked up 239 wickets and is highly economical.
