The coronavirus threat has restricted everyone from leaving their homes. As the entire world practises social distancing, cricketers are using this time to interact with their fans on social media. Many former and current cricketers are using this time to conduct Questions and Answers sessions on Twitter while others are engaging in Instagram live sessions.
Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg is one of the cricketers who has been extremely active on social media in the past few days. Hogg has been answering questions posted by his fans in the last few weeks.
“I feel Lyon has edged Ashwin over the last year”, Hogg expresses his opinion
On Friday, one of the fans asked him a question which has been making rounds in the cricket world for the past few years. He asked Brad Hogg to pick the better spinner between India’s Ravi Ashwin and Australia’s Nathan Lyon. Both are top spinners in the Test cricket at the moment. They have an exceptional record in the format and have been key to the success of their respective sides.
I feel Lyon has has taken the mantle from Ashwin over the last year just as the best off spinner, but I love the way both continue to improve there games and not be complacent where they are at. #hoggytime https://t.co/KusIOxpzw8

The 49-year-old didn’t shy away from giving his honest opinion. According to him, over the last one year, Lyon has edged Ashwin as the best off-spinner. Brad Hogg also revealed that he loves the way both are trying to improve their game everytime. “I feel Lyon has taken the mantle from Ashwin over the last year just as the best off-spinner, but I love the way both continue to improve there games and not be complacent where they are at,” Hogg’s tweet read.
Hogg’s observation is quite accurate. Since their debuts in 2011, Ashwin was rated higher than Lyon. In fact, Ashwin’s record between 2015 and 2018 was too good to be ignored. However, since 2018, Lyon has rediscovered his form and has been bowling quite well.
But, going by the stats, the Indian offie is much ahead of Australian counterpart. In 71 Tests, the former has picked 365 wickets at an average of 25.43 while Lyon has accounted for 390 scalps from 96 Tests at an average of 31.58.
