Ravi Shastri, the Indian cricket team’s head coach, and the other support staff of the national team are currently on a 45-day extension period. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier sent out applications for the role of the positions in the coaching role. The last day of application was July 30 after which a number of prominent names from the cricket world have applied.
It has been learned that the six short-listed candidates for the head coach’s role are Mike Hesson, Tom Moody, Robin Singh, Lalchand Rajput, Phil Simmons and Ravi Shastri. It’s been known that all of them have been informed about the date and time of the interview. In the meantime, the Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will interview them at the BCCI headquarters on Friday.
“Some of the overseas candidates may not be able to attend the meeting, so they would connect with the panel via video call,” one of the top BCCI officials was quoted as saying in Sportstar. “The CAC members have been emailed the final shortlisted names. The members will reach Mumbai on August 15 and they will take a final call on the right candidate,” the official added.
The three-member committee consists of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy and the trio will be picking the head coach. The candidates for the other positions will be interviewed by MSK Prasad, the chairman of selectors.
Ravi Shastri to be interviewed on Skype
The world’s richest cricket board has been clear cut in saying that Virat Kohli’s inputs won’t be taken during the interview process. The board has reportedly gotten over 2,000 applications for the coaching profiles, but only a few big names have put their hands up for the high-profile head coach’s position. Ravi Shastri is currently in the West Indies with the Indian team.
He will be the last one to be interviewed due to the time zones and his interaction will be on Skype. “He will be the last to appear for the interview because of time zone difference,” the official added. Shastri and his coaching staff came under fire after India’s exit from the World Cup following the semi-final loss versus New Zealand at the Old Trafford in Manchester.
