The 8th day of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) witnessed two top teams continuing their winning run. Trinbago Knight Riders breezed past the struggling Guyana Amazon Warriors while the St Lucia Zouks returned to the winning ways. The pitch was on the slower side for both the matches and the wear and tear on it is increasing it seems with the amount of matches being played.
The first match of the day was between the Zouks and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. After losing the toss, the Patriots batsmen once again disappointed and were left reeling at 38/5 in the ninth over. Rather, they were 11/4 in the third over itself thanks to the off-spinner Mohammad Nabi. A plethora of spinners rolled their arm in the innings as the pitch was extremely slow.
Ben Dunk and lower-order batsmen, Rayad Emrit and Alzarri Joseph took the responsibility and played well to take the Patriots to 110/9 in 20 overs. Nabi ended with the magical figures of 5/15 in his four overs even as 16 overs of spin was bowled during the innings.
The chase wasn’t straightforward one either. Rahkeem Cornwall and Andre Fletcher added 30 runs for the opening wicket. But soon they were reduced to 52/3 by the end of the 7th over with Imran Khan picking all three wickets. From hereon, Roston Chase and Najibullah Zadran stepped up to stitch 47 runs together. The partnership made sure that the game was one-sided as the Zouks registered their fourth win.
Warriors continue to struggle
Trinbago Knight Riders continued their unbeaten run even after five matches. This time, they defeated the struggling Guyana Amazon Warriors whose batsmen have continuously failed to make any impact. After being invited to bat first on a slow wicket, they were 12/3 at one stage with Khary Pierre doing the damage. Sunil Narine not playing hasn’t affected the team much as the other spinners have effectively stepped up for the Knight Riders.
Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor and Keemo Paul took enough efforts to propel the team to 112/7 in their 20 overs. Pierre returned with the figures of 3/18 while the other bowlers were also economical.
Lendl Simmons and Tion Webster started decently for the TKR side before they lost two wickets on successive deliveries. At 34/2 in the sixth over, it seemed as if the match will go down the wire. But the middle-order duo of Darren Bravo (26*) and Tim Seifert (39*) batted decently after joining hands at 52/3 and made sure there were no more hiccups in the chase.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:

3 off the 4 lefties in the Guyana lineup dismissed by slow left arm spinner Pierre!!
Both the leg spinner n SLA spinner completed their quota , that shows how much they struggled to score !!
