Trinbago Knight Riders marched to a record 11th straight victory in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) brushing aside Jamaica Tallawahs with an emphatic 9-wicket win in the first semi-finals played at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.
Electing to bowl after winning the toss, the Knight Riders decimated Tallawahs’ top order and had them reduced to 25-4 within the powerplay. A bizarre decision of sending bowler Mujeeb Ur Rehman at number three backfired as well. Nkrumah Bonner and captain Rovman Powell got together and stitched a useful partnership but soon Bonner was dismissed on 41 who was eventually the top scorer.
Andre Russell, a man who held the key for Jamaica in the last few overs of the innings was wrongly given out in the 14th over and the following batsmen just couldn’t muster up enough runs from there and the Tallawahs finished with a mere 107 runs on the board. For the Knight Riders, Akeal Hosein did a fantastic job with the ball picking up 3 wickets for 14 runs and was ably supported by Khary Pierre who picked 2 for 29.
The Knight Riders didn’t break a sweat during the chase and while Sunil Narine was dismissed early on for 4, Lendl Simmons, who scored 54, played sensibly along with Tion Webster and guided Knight Riders to an easy victory without loss of any further wickets which took them to the finals where they are firm favourites to win the title.
Guyana Amazon Warriors slump to record defeat against St Lucia Zouks
The batsmen of Guyana Amazon Warriors chose perhaps the worst occasion to collapse as they were bundled out for 55, the second lowest total in the history of CPL to hand St Lucia Zouks a record victory and an easy pass into the finals.
Put it into bat by the Zouks, the Warriors got off to the worst possible start losing Brandon King and star performer Shimron Hetmyer in the first over itself with no runs on the board. Warriors couldn’t recover from there and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for 55 with Chandrapaul Hemraj top scoring with 25. They lost their last wickets five wickets for just 5 runs completing a horrendous performance with the bat.
The bowling unit of Zouks performed well collectively as all the six bowlers used picked up a wicket at least. For the chase, Zouks’ openers Mark Deyal and Rahkeem Cornwall came out all guns blazing and destroyed the bowling finishing off the match in a mere 4.3 overs with 10 wickets to spare. This mammoth victory has now put them into the finals, where they will have to defeat the unstoppable Trinbago Knight Riders to lift the trophy.

This is not the Semifinal you expect… Guyana vs Zouks game lasted only 109 balls and Zouks chased 55 in 4.3 overs making the biggest win in CPL in terms of balls remaining.

Again it is #Shahrukhkhan vs #PreityZinta in the #caribbeanpremierleague as Shahrukhkhan owned #Trinbagoknightriders and Preity Zinta owned #StLuciaZouks are in the finals. I still remember #KolkataKnightRiders and #KingsXIPunjab finals in #IPL 2014.
