After suffering a 2-0 defeat in the recent Test series against India, Bangladesh are set to lock horns with Pakistan. The Tigers are scheduled to tour Pakistan next month. With exactly a month to go for the Pakistan tour, Bangladesh have parted ways with their fast bowling coach.
In a move to bolster their coaching set-up, South Africa has appointed Bangladesh’s bowling coach Charl Langeveldt after his resignation as the fast bowling coach of Bangladesh was accepted by the country’s cricket board. Recently, Cricket South Africa, which is going through an overhaul, had appointed Mark Boucher as men’s team coach.
After former South Africa skipper, Graeme Smith was appointed the director of cricket for the three months (with the prospect of an extended term), his first move was to welcome former wicketkeeper Mark Boucher as head coach until the 2023 World Cup.
Langeveldt was South Africa’s bowling coach between 2015 and 2017 and was also Afghanistan‘s bowling consultant at this year’s Cricket World Cup in England. Bangladesh had appointed Langeveldt as the fast bowling coach in July post the ICC World Cup 2019. He had replaced West Indian Courtney Walsh after the marquee event.
South Africa to host England for four Tests
Nazmul Hasan, the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed that the board accepted Langeveldt’s resignation after he emailed them explaining the offer he received from Cricket South Africa.
“Basically South Africa Cricket Board had requested for Langeveldt as they are eyeing to rope him in their coaching set-up,” said BCB president Nazmul Hasan as quoted by Cricbuzz.
”They are aware that Langeveldt has a contract with us and so decided to request us regarding him because unless we part ways they cannot take him in their coaching set-up. It is not like Langeveldt informed us anything like he wanted to leave us and go,” he added.
Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis is also likely to be appointed as the batting consultant. The Proteas are slated to host England for four Tests. The first Test is scheduled to start from 26 December at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. After a dismal Test series against India, Faf du Plessis and Co are currently sitting at the bottom of World Test Championship’s points table.
