The coronavirus pandemic has created a lot of ruckus in India. Some of the states in India, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Delhi, have been deeply affected. In TN, the government announced a further 12-day complete lockdown bearing in mind the gravity of the current scenario. In the meantime, the police have seized former Indian cricketer Robin Singh’s car.

Singh was said to have broken the lockdown rules, travelling from Adyar to Uthandi for buying vegetables. Going by the lockdown rules, people can only move within 2 kms from their place of residence to buy essential commodities.

Robin Singh’s vehicle seized

On Saturday morning, Singh was coming from the East Coast Road (ECR), the police said. When the police checked on the retired cricketer, they didn’t find an e-pass and Singh didn’t have a valid reason to travel as well.

“He was very polite and didn’t put on any airs. We seized his vehicle for violating the lockdown rules,” the police official was quoted as saying in Times Now. The official also said that Singh might have travelled in the car for more than two kilometres from his home.

Before the lockdown began, A.K. Viswanathan, the Chennai Police Commissioner, requested the people to do grocery shopping within two kms from their residences. He also told the police to refrain from taking harsh actions against those, who violated the rules.

In Chennai, the coronavirus cases have gone up to 67,468 with 886 people losing their lives. Around 37,763 have recovered though. Overall, in India, the ungodly virus has infected over 4,73,000 with the death toll nearing 15,000.

Maharashtra has been the most affected with the numbers around 1,43,000. Delhi isn’t in the greatest of states either with over 70,000 positive cases.

As far as Singh is concerned, he was one of India’s most athletic fielders during his playing days. Born in Trinidad, he played one Test and 136 ODIs for India from 1989 to 2001. He scored 2,663 runs for India with one century and nine half-centuries.

He last played in India’s home ODI series against Australia back in 2001. He has also coached the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The Tridents are the defending champions in the CPL.
