The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have somewhat got themselves out of the rabbit hole, having won their last two home matches. But the fact that their last three matches won’t be at the Warner Park is a bit of a concern. Carlos Brathwaite and Co are yet to win an away contest thus far in this edition’s CPL. After beating the Trinbago Knight Riders, the Patriots will be facing the Jamaica Tallawahs.
The Tallawahs are still at the bottom of the table after a solitary win out of six encounters. The team, captained by Chadwick Walton, will also be playing its last home match. Jamaica slumped to a hefty 81-run loss at the hands of the Guyana Amazon Warriors and don’t quite look in great shape. But they can take heart from the fact that the Patriots have never beaten them at the Sabina Park.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch during the night-time has been an excellent one for batting. Hence another high-scoring match won’t spring a surprise. Both team’s batting unit is more in form and hence, the sides will be better off, fielding first. Also, the dew will help batting easier in the second half. There are no chances of rain. The temperature will be around the 27 degrees Celsius mark.
The Tallawahs rely heavily on the top order, consisting of Chris Gayle, Glenn Phillips and Chadwick Walton. However, all three need to show a bit more consistency at the top, even if means curbing their natural instincts for a brief while. Andre Russell returned to the lineup after the layoff and he was pretty much on his mark. With the ball, he picked up two wickets in the previous encounter.
He didn’t look out of touch with the leather either, having plundered 40 off 19 with three sixes and as many fours. Dwayne Smith bowled reasonably, getting rid of Shimron Hetmyer, but he is yet to fire on all cylinders with the willow. The bowling department continued to leak runs, though it has somewhat been strengthened with the inclusion of Zahir Khan Pakteen and pacer Jade Dernbach.
Chris Gayle, Glenn Phillips (wk), Chadwick Walton (C), Javelle Glen, George Worker, Andre Russell, Dwayne Smith, Ramaal Lewis, Jade Dernbach, Zahir Khan, Oshane Thomas
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
First and foremost, the Patriots would be breathing a sigh of relief as their skipper Brathwaite found his rhythm after six lacklustre outings. Ricky not only scored the match-winning fifty versus TKR, but also took responsibility of bowling in the Super Over. He now has to carry forward his form with the Patriots quite a distance away from the playoffs. A lot depends on Evin Lewis at the top of the order.
Laurie Evans and Devon Thomas have shown reasonable form with the bat. Fabian Allen should be batting a tad higher in the order since he hasn’t had much troubles in playing his shots from the word go. Mohammad Hafeez has clearly strained to find form. In the bowling area, Rayad Emrit and Sheldon Cottrell hold the key. The rest of the bowlers need to lend adequate support to the duo.
Devon Thomas (wk), Evin Lewis, Laurie Evans, Mohammad Hafeez, Carlos Brathwaite (C), Shamarh Brooks, Fabian Allen, Rayad Emrit, Alzarri Joseph, Akeem Jordan, Sheldon Cottrell
