The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. The curtains came down on the 2019 World Cup after Sunday’s Final between New Zealand and England at the Lord’s in London. After the Black Caps won the toss and elected to bat first, both the teams fought tooth and nail. Eventually, the teams managed 241 runs each and the encounter went in the Super Over, which also was tied.
Fortunately, the Brits had hit more boundaries than their opponents and hence won the match as well as the World Cup. It was the Three Lions’ maiden Final in the mega event since 1992 and Eoin Morgan’s men stepped up and delivered. Ben Stokes was adjudged the Player of the Match for his 84 even as Kane Williamson, the Black Caps’ skipper, got the Player of the Tournament award.
After the jaw-dropping game, the cricketing fraternity wished England for their first World Cup trophy. Many of them also lauded the Kiwis for the resilience at the Home of Cricket. Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan, the Indian all-rounder, picked his best XI of the mega event and made Williamson the captain. Vijay Shankar, who got ruled out due to a toe fracture, thanked everyone for their constant love and support.
Vinod Kambli, the former Indian cricketer, watched the Wimbledon Final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer along with the World Cup final. He was gorging on some delicious Biriyani while watching the games. Shikhar Dhawan motivated the India U19 team before its tri-series, involving England U19 and Bangladesh U19. Rohit Sharma questioned the ICC after England was awarded six runs instead of five in an over-throw.
