There has been a history of generations and generations of cricketers playing together in First-Class or international cricket. Right from the Grace brothers, to the more famous Waugh twins and Flower brothers, cricket is not short of siblings and even parents playing with their children, as Shivnarine Chanderpaul did with his son Tagenarine.
England have had a rich history of brothers and sons and grandsons playing for the country or in English county cricket and the latest entrants were the Curran brothers, as Sam and Tom Curran have played for England together in ODIs, while Sam is fast becoming an important member of the England Test team. Not known to many, there is a third Curran brother named Ben, who plays for Northamptonshire.
The Currans may soon play in the same FC fixture
The three Currans, Tom, Ben, and Sam are sons of former Zimbabwe all-rounder Kevin Curran and have made quite a name for themselves in domestic and international cricket. Tom and Sam have already made their England debut. They are perhaps the second most famous siblings for England in recent times, after the Hollioakes, Adam and late Ben.
While Sam and Tom Curran play for Surrey county in England County cricket, Ben has opted to play for Northamptonshire, which till recent times played in the second division in the domestic competition. Now that the county side has qualified for promotion into the first division, there are real chances of the three brothers going against one another when Surrey face Northamptonshire.
Tom Curran welcomed his brother Ben into the first division with a brilliant banter on WhatsApp and shared the screenshot of the conversation on tweets. “Big congrats to @NorthantsCCC and @curranjb_57 on getting promoted. Have 3 brothers ever played in the same first-class fixture before? Can’t wait for this!!!” Tom posted on his Twitter.
