Australian opener, David Warner stitched one of the best partnerships in ODI cricket history with his opening partner Aaron Finch against India at the Wankhede Stadium last night. The left-hand-right-hand duo guided the visitors to a record 10 wickets win over the Men in Blue and they gained a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.
The Aussies are the most successful team in World Cup history having won 5 World Cup trophies and Aaron Finch’s men are now looking forward to the 2023 World Cup. Since the World Cup will be hosted by India, the Aussies are now optimistic about their chances of winning the event. Warner reflected his own views on the same after the match besides heaping praise on the team’s captain, Aaron Finch.
“We know each other’s games so well”: David Warner on Aaron Finch
Speaking about their unbeaten 258-run opening stand versus India, Warner was quoted as follows by cricket.com.au: “We know each other’s games so well and personalities that now we can have honest conversations out there. It’s just great to go out there and play the way that we do when he’s going I know what my role is. And when I’m going he knows what his role is and we communicate that straight away and I think that’s the best thing about our partnership.”
He further talked about the upcoming Cricket World Cup in India and continued: “It works very well. It’s great and I absolutely love it and he loves it and hopefully, we can keep looking forward to that next World Cup (in 2023).”
The left-handed batsman also felt that Finch was at his best during his innings of 110*. “The most pleasing thing for me up the other end was seeing Finchy transfer his weight into the ball very well,” Warner said. “He talks about not doing that as consistent, but that was probably the best that I’ve ever seen him bat,” he signed off.
The second ODI of India vs Australia series will take place this Friday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. It will be intriguing to see if the hosts can bounce back in the second match or will the visitors seal the deal with yet another clinical performance.
