The Indian Premier League (IPL) was supposed to commence on March 29. But the Coronavirus enforced lockdown in the country has led to the tournament being suspended until further notice. But the franchises are doing their best to keep the fans engaged during this quarantine period. The cricketers are going live through the team’s official social media handles and interacting with each other.
Earlier, it was David Warner and Jonny Bairstow coming together and on Saturday, Kane Williamson joined the Australian opener for the chat. The duo plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) together in the IPL and Warner was supposed to lead the team this season. Interestingly, he had taken over the reins from the Kiwi skipper itself who led the team in 2018 and 2019 editions.
During the conversation, David Warner was asked to pick three batsmen he would bat for his life and unsurprisingly, he named three of the current fab four batsmen. The southpaw picked the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, his Aussie teammate Steve Smith and Kane Williamson praising the trio for their exceptional batting skills.
All the three batsmen are the leading batsmen of their own country and are among the top three in international cricket across all the formats. And it is only fair that Warner is in awe of their skills and wants to bat with them for life.
Warner and Williamson talked about World Cup 2019 final too
David Warner and Kane Williamson spoke about the different aspects of the game as well during the friendly chat and touched upon the dramatic World Cup 2019 final too. New Zealand ended up at the wrong end of the result despite not losing the crunch game in 100 overs and the subsequent super over.
They were hard done by the boundary count rule and even by the ‘bat deflected’ overthrow in the final over which had led to England clawing back into the contest. Speaking of the same, Williamson admitted that it was an emotional moment for him and his team and they couldn’t do much as a lot of other things decided the outcome of the final.
“It was an emotional time and it had to be emotional at that point. You very much have to do your next task despite the number of things outside your control and all these bits and pieces of things that happen on a cricket field, you still gotta manage those emotions.
After the game, it was quite difficult to make sense of it, but I think the thing we can reflect upon and be proud of the way we played the entire tournament, and we know on that Lord’s ground that 230-240 was gonna be very competitive,” he said.
