David Warner, the Australian left-handed batsman, is confident that the Aussie players would be playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) provided the T20 World Cup later this year gets postponed. The coronavirus pandemic has left the ICC in a bit of a fix, but the apex cricket board is ready to wait and watch before zeroing in on any decision.
The BCCI is also waiting for the ICC to take a call before they could finalise something on the cash-rich IPL. If reports are to be believed, the Indian board is planning to host the IPL from September 26 onwards.
”…and if it is unlikely if the World Cup can’t go ahead, then I am very sure and positive that we will be able to come and play in the IPL if that replaces the World Cup schedule,” Warner was quoted as saying by India Today.
“If that permits us from Cricket Australia giving the go-ahead to go over there, I am sure we will put our hands up and come and play cricket which at the end of the day is what we love,” he stated.
If CA allows us, we will be on board: David Warner
Warner understands that hosting a multi-national event, bearing in mind how contagious the COVID-19 has been, can be a tough task. He said that hosting the T20 event in Australia pretty much rests on how the Australian government decides the rules and regulations.
As far as the IPL goes, Warner, who plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), said that the players would be ready for the tournament if the Aussie government gives a green signal.
“Look, most definitely all the players who have been selected and picked in the auction will put their hand up if we are permitted. One we have to get government clearance as well to travel.
“If Cricket Australia allows us to go over there and participate, I am sure the guys will definitely be on board with that to be back up and running and playing cricket again,” Warner added.
Among the foreign players, Warner is the leading run-scorer in the IPL, having won the Orange Cap quite a few times. In 2016, he also led the Orange Army to glory, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final.
