Shubman Gill found himself in the midst of a raging controversy on the first morning of the Round 04 Elite Group A & B encounter between Punjab and Delhi in Delhi when he was involved in a heated altercation with the on-field Umpire after the latter had adjudged him out. It so happened that the on-field official had adjudged the Punjab batsman caught-behind off the bowling of Subodh Bhatti.
Gill was clearly not happy with the on-field call, and the upcoming teenage sensation refused to leave the crease. In fact, the usually mild-mannered teenage got so irked at the umpire’s call that he proceeded to throw a few expletives to the umpire as a heated altercation ensued. The decision was finally reversed after a brief stoppage in play but that didn’t go down well with the Delhi team, who threatened to walk out of the field. However, the match-referee made a timely intervention and the gradually escalating issue was finally resolved with play resuming shortly.
In the latest development, Delhi and District Cricket Association secretary Vinod Tihara has declared that they will not be lodging an official complaint against the Punjab opener.
“No, the team will not lodge any complaint with the match referee as we believe that the matter ended then and there. The boys just wanted clarity on why the decision was reversed and that was all there is to the matter. No question of stretching the matter and honestly, there was no walk-off either. It was just about getting a clear picture as to what happened,” Vinod Tiharam, DDCA secretary told reporters as quoted by India Today.

Following the reversal of the decision, Gill resumed batting but-unfortunately for the youngster- he could add just 13 runs to his total and was eventually dismissed for a 41-ball 23. Since the altercation, the Punjab batsman has been receiving a lot of backlash on social media, with the fans disappointed by the youngster’s behaviour.
